DOLE is an audiovisual installation/performance based on the field research of Rusyn/Hucul minorities from the Carpathian Mountains within the borderlands of Slovakia, Ukraine, Poland and Romania. The individual stories are shaped by the environment in which the characters live and their fatal decisions often rhyme into sentences that repeat as many times as they sound like they were sung. The collage of photographs, videos and sound recordings is based on the personal experiences of the characters, representing the contemporary, living and unpreserved culture, the Rusyn underground.
